THIS IS A PIECE OF MY BOOK: TENT BOY TENT LIFE

"The “Operation Rudi Nyumbani” was taking course as the lorries popularly known as Tugogo wound their way on the dusty path leading to the strategically located tent areas. Everyone in the Burnt Forest Town tents was busy tying their baggage and luggage preparing to go back to their niche. My most profound pleasure was being given free lifts to the areas I had just been visiting like Rurigi,Kamuyu, Kondoo Center and Bindura. Surprisingly, the tent school we were in closed with immediate effect from Eight a.m. Monday in the first week of June. Ever heard of a school closing at this time of year (except the striking schools)? Well, that was our custom. What you hear being called a school was just big tents, without doors . No teachers no books and nothing. Only tents that could be mistaken for conference halls. And this wasn't healthy for a Form three student like me. But that was how things were. We had already switched to this kind of life since we were flushed out of our homes in 2007. this year when mentioned sends jitters even to small children who witnessed the work done by the arsonists. They are the reason behind us living in tents and not our houses. The ultimate reason why we were suffering.................."

Standard tuning

I FOUND THIS ON WIKIPEDIA AND I THINK IT CAN BE USEFUL Helmholtz notation Note: This article uses Helmholtz pitch notation to define guitar tunings. v · d · e Standard tuning (listen) Notes in standard tuning. Making a standard tuning using overtones Standard tuning is by far the most popular tuning on a 6-string guitar. It consists of the following notes. String Note Frequency Scientific pitch notation 1 (Highest) e' 329.63 Hz E4 2 b 246.94 Hz B3 3 g 196.00 Hz G3 4 d 146.83 Hz D3 5 A 110.00 Hz A2 6 (Lowest) E 82.41 Hz E2 The pitches referred to above are referenced standard pitch (a' = 440.0 Hz.). In some regions of Europe, especially Germany, Serbia and Poland, and in Russia and Ukraine, where classical musicians use the German system, the B natural is indicated with the letter H: in music notation, H is B♮ (B natural) and B is B♭ (B flat). The guitar, as conventionally fretted, is an equal tempered instrument. The guitar is a transposing instrument. In the case of the guitar, its actual pitches sound one octave lower than notated. Letter names in table reflect pitch in Helmholtz pitch notation. This pattern can also be denoted as E-A-d-g-b-e'. (See note for an explanation of the various symbols used in the above table and elsewhere in this article.) Standard tuning has evolved to provide a good compromise between simple fingering for many chords and the ability to play common scales with minimal left hand movement. The separation of the first (e') and second (b) string, as well as the separation between the third (g), fourth (d), fifth (A), and sixth (E) strings by a five-semitone interval (a perfect fourth) allows notes of the chromatic scale to be played with each of the four fingers of the left hand controlling one of the first four frets (index finger on fret 1, little finger on fret 4, etc.). It also yields a symmetry and intelligibility to fingering patterns. The separation of the second (b), and third (g) string is by a four-semitone interval (a major third). Though this breaks the fingering pattern of the chromatic scale and thus the symmetry, it eases the playing of some often-used chords and scales, and it provides more diversity in fingering possibilities. I open 1st fret (index) 2nd fret (middle) 3rd fret (ring) 4th fret (little) 1st string e' f' f♯' g' a♭' 2nd string b c' c♯' d' e♭' 3rd string g a♭ a b♭ ... 4th string d e♭ e f f♯ 5th string A B♭ B c c♯ 6th string E F F♯ G A♭ Chromatic note progression It is important to note that the relative harmonic ratio (e.g. semitones-steps) between neighboring strings, does not change when moving up the frets. For example when considering the 1st and 2nd strings: e' to b (open strings) is like f' to c' (1st fret) is like f♯' to c♯' (2nd fret) etc. The chromatic (equal tempered) musical scale and the natural musical scale have note pitches that are in some instances similar. The natural musical scale uses natural harmonic pitches. For example, the A note has harmonics pitches for the D and E notes. The guitar fretboard can approximately accommodate to tuning to the chromatic or natural musical scale by adjusting the intonation by a little. Intonation is tuning of the fret notes to other fret notes of one string so that most of the fretboard note pitches are tuned to the pitches of the musical scale. Intonation tuning is done by adjusting the string lengths at the bridge. The open string note of a particular string is kept constant so that when adjusting the string length, most of the fretboard pitches are closely matched to the pitches of the musical scale for this string. Tune the open string by adjusting the string tension at the tuning gear using a decent electronic tuner for tuning. Then check the intonation tuning of the fifth, seventh, ninth, twelfth, sixteenth and nineteenth fret note pitches of this string by ear using an electronic chromatic pitch pipe that comes with the above tuner. If these pitches are too high, move the bridge saddle back (away from fretboard) from about 0.5 to about 9 millimetres for the sixth string for a 0.65 metre scale length. If these fret note pitches are too low, then move the bridge saddle forward a little instead. Next tune intonation of other strings each in same way.

THE HOBBIT SONG

Far over the misty mountains cold, To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away ere the break of day, To seek the pale enchanted gold. The dwarves of yore made mighty spells, While hammers fell like ringing bells In places deep, where dark things sleep, In hollow halls beneath the fells. For ancient kings and elvish lord There many a gleaming golden hoard They shaped and wrought, and light they caught, To hide in gems on hilt of sword. On silver necklaces they strung The flowering stars, on crowns they hung The dragon-fire, in twisted wire They meshed the light and moon and sun. For over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old, We must away ere break of day, To claim our long-forgotten gold. Goblets they carved there for themselves And harps of gold; where no man delves There lay they lay long, and many a song Was sung unheard by man or elves. The pines were roaring on the height, The winds were moaning in the night. The fire was red, it flaming spread; Laid low like torches blazed with light. The bells were ringing in the dale, And men looked up with faces pale, Then dragon's ire more fierce than fire Laid low their towers and houses frail. The mountains smoked beneath the moon; The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom. They fled their hall to dying fall Beneath his feet, beneath the moon. For over misty mountains grim To dungeons deep and caverns dim We must away ere break of day, To win our harps and gold from him!

TUNING YOUR GUITAR

An untuned guitar produces no music. Lets learn a few things that one has to know in order to make their guitar useful. If you read the recent articles, then you should be able to know that there are parts called frets, knobs, strings etc. I am talking about strings here. Now hold you guitar with the strings facing away from you belly. Arch your back forward until your finger rest on fret 1 of the guitar. The first strings that i always start to tune are string E and A. Now turn the tuneknob of string E (lets call it s1) to a certain favourable pitch. Dont tighten too much, you might break it! Press your index finger on s2 fret 3. If the guitar is tuned, s1 when open(not pressed) will sound the same as s2 pressed on fret 3). If not, turn s2 knob until it sounds like open s1. Remember that its not a must that coiling the knob has to be clockwise- it is determined by the pitch of s1. Thats for today. Next we will tune s3 and s4. If u have a suggestion, you are free to post it as a comment that will be viewed by over 100 serious guitar lovers.

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR GUITAR

A guitar is a dear instrument to maintain. Lets learn some of the parts that got to be handled with care. The six strings: they are attached to the bridge on one end and tuning knobs on the other. The lowest high-pitched string is 'E' and the topmost, also called bass is also 'E'. From the lowest, you can count strings E,A,B,C,D,E. This strings need to be dusted by passing a dry piece of rug over them. A damp rug can not do since dampness can cause rusting. The tuning knobs: they need to be lubricated regularly to avoid rust. The motherboard: its one of the most sensitive part of the guitar that takes a hippy shape. Heavy objects should not be placed on it to avoid breakage. It should be kept dry to avoid dampness that kills the sound. Hey folks, your guitar will not break while am still here. See you morrow!Once again,to a guitar is a dear instrument to maintain. "If Tomorrow Never Comes" - John Rainey - (Garth Brooks Cover)

DO YOU OWN A GUITAR?

A guitar is a six stringed instrument that is played by plucking to produce music. the guitar is used in most songs as it is referred to as the basic music maker. Guitars come in two main categories; the acoustic and elecoustic guitars. The acoustic has a hippy board made of card board. It requires no power, only the fingers do the working. The elecoustic on the other hand is an electricity powered device. it is connected to an amplifier to produce sound. I will cover the acoustic guitar also known as box guitar. It is in terms of convenience the best choice. it requires no power as I said, is louder and cheaper (if you know its importance. they take several forms to the buyers taste. depending on the manufacturer, the price of an acoustic guitar ranges from 2,500-5,000. quality and the retailer also matters. Preferably, a 5,000 guitar is the best in quality. The local ones go for 2,000 and are much better as they are louder than the flashy ones you get at the supermarkets. A guitar is not easy to play as it seems when those rocksters move their fingers over and over easily. It needs commitment and focus. One can learn over the internet or in the music schools. You can also hook up with a guy who knows how we do it. The reason why you should have a guitar is that it is an accurate way of stress relieving. Its music. It is also a romantic instrument after the violin. Hanging it on the bedroom wall without even playing it invokes some romance. For those who like eccentricity, putting it on your couch will make your friends say wow when they visit. It can keep them busy when you are preparing your food. And note that you can never get fatigued of fondling a guitar over and over. However, a guitar is a delicate instrument. When neglected the melodious, shining strings may get rusty, it may break down when p[laced in a dump place. It therefore needs dusting and drying it regularly, say in two weeks time. Children are guitar enemies. Keep it out of reach. They are attracted by the tuning knobs which when tightly coiled may break the strings. Among the most fascinating instruments is the guitar. It can talk, snort, neigh growl and can provide a range of sounds when held at the various spaces between the vertical bars called frets. To produce music, you need to have chords. Have you ever realize d that the piano is an advancement of a guitar? If you know how to play the guitar, then you sure know how to play the piano. But vice versa, it can’t work! Now we are learning. So why don’t you try it out, venturing through your unexplored side of art life? Learn new skills and when you perfect it out don forget to comment here. When you go for it, don’t forget to choose the right one. Do not end up buying a right handed guitar while you are right handed. Right handed guitar is meant for the left handed people. That’s a lesson for tomorrow! My uncle who trained me once told me that there is nothing like talents in this world. If we have concentration, passion and commitment we can do anything better that anyone else.

OUTTA CLASS

Getting out of class was the last thing i could opt to do. I struggle to get money for fees and you dare send me out? Am sorry ma'am, i cant.

A FIREMANS PRAYER

When i am called to duty God, whenever flame may rage, give me strength to save some life whatever its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late or save an older person from the horror of fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the faintest shout and quickly and effectively put the fire out. I want to fulfil my calling and give the best in me to guard my neighbour and protect his/her property from destruction. If according to your will i have to loose my life,God bless my family and friends with your protecting hands. AMEN

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TERMS

One guy was trying to explain to another the difference between the fuse and the breaking wire. He had all the terms that were needed to explain it but the twists and turns of the words ended up saying nothing. So the quark ended up winning the conversation because he simply explained the difference with simple english.

I WONDERED WHY IT WAS NOT JAMMING ON THE LESS INTERESTING PARTS. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU ARE WAITING FOR A DATE, OR DRIVING TO THEIR HOME TO PICK THEM, THE CAR BREAKS, OR YOU RUN OUT OF GAS. YET YOU ARE ALWAYS FULL OF GAS. WHEN YOU ARE WAITING FOR A GRADUATION IN YOUR SCHOOL, THE TEND TO POSTPONE IT. WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?

PROBLEMS I DONT HAVE

IF U GIVE ME PROBLEMS, I USUALLY DON'T CARRY THEM. I ALWAYS WALK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CROWD BECAUSE I WAS NEARLY SHOT THRICE LAST YEAR. I DONT TAKE FOODS FROM PEOPLE I DONT KNOW, I NEARLY THREW UP TWO YEARS AGO WHEN A BOY GAVE ME ROTTEN MANGOES. I AM ALSO A VERY CAREFUL CHAP WHEN IT COMES TO DEALING WITH GIRLS. I HAVE INFORMATION THAT THEY CAN TAKE YOU ANYWHERE NT WITHIN YOUR REACH, BUT I FIGURE OUT THAT THEY CAN TAKE YOU BACK FROM THAT PLACE. AND THEY CAN TAKE YOU EVEN NEGATIVE OF WHERE YOU ARE. I HAVE A MOTHER ALSO, AND I KNOW SHE LOVES ME AS HER FIRST SON. I A M PROUD I AM MY MOTHERS SON. BUT WHAT IF WE WERE TWO? TWO SONS TO A SINGLE MOTHER ARE FAR TOO MANY. THE INJURED EYE SERIES2

THIS CONTINUES TODAY AT 9PM GMT+3.00 KENYAN TIME

JOKE OF THE DAY

When they ran out, on of the big boys was left in the class. He was looking suspiciously at the desk in the far corner.
He tiptoed towards it and did something.
when the break ended the pupils were astonished to find pee and shit on one of their desks. The culprit was not yet known, and the teachers did some extra work trying to determine who the culprit was. it is then they discovered that on the boys was hyper-sensitize on every question. 'Why are you reacting that violently?" one of the teachers asked. "because you think it was me who did that, but i made sure that everybody was out before i peed on that desk. Anyway no one saw me so go on until you find me"

THE INJURED EYE: SHORT STORY SERIES 1 by Antony N. Greywolf

The boy always told his mother that he was not in terms with the other children. For boys of his age,it was the high time to hunt down the village girls. But Injured Eye never went with them, which brought to his head insults and underestimation.

When he discovered that his mom-the only relative and sibling was not disturbed by his problems,he opted to stay by the fire place every hour of the day, staring at the embers that glowed with joy.
The boys had planned a huntdown of one girl who had proved to be a rare mineral to their cheerleader. They had resolved that every boy had to be there and 'support their leader body, soul and in any way chanced in'. Injured Eye was not there.

* * * * *

He was staring at the fire with subtle interest. The flames reflected in his right eye and fell bluntly on the stitch that protected his othe r eye. Since his childhood, this stitch had been there. Only his mom knew what had brought it about. And what it carried.
* * *
The knock at the door did not interrupt his searching eye. In a twinkle the boys rammed into the house. They fumed and after the leader's speech,Injured Eye was lying prostate on the ground.

GIVING OUT

They say give more and expect less. Why?

today

This August has unfolded many escapades. I didnt know how carbon IV oxide kills people. Pararira,as people call the mechanic, could not even move a limb as he had consumed a lot of it. A beer truck also crashed near the Bforest police post.

BY THE TABLE YOU WILL FIND THEM,
screaming and wailing
and the shots they take random,
giving cents and billing
they exchange their cue sticks,
they choose which to use,
they hammer on cue ball
that speeds off screaming,
only to pass the impulse,
to another lonely cue,
that jumps into action.

They cry in expectations,
when their marks escalate,
they give their predictions,
their scores they update.

The game is over,
the looser cries it over,
the winner falling over,
he stretches about over,
and around he hovers

he only won 30pence piece,
and better it is

MOMS DEATH

I CAME WITH A CRY,
OF THE NEW WORLD I FOUND,
MY MOUTH WAS DRY,
I WANTED MOM'S TITS,
SHE TOLD 'HUSH SON!',
YOUR TIT IS HERE,
YOU ARE MY FIRST CHILD-MY ONLY CHILD,

CLINGING ON IT I SUCKED,
SUCKED SUCKED AND SUCKED,
AND STILL I SUCKED MORE,
SUCKED MY MOM TO DEATH,
BUT THAT I NEVER KNEW.

MY GRANNY TOLD ME THAT,
I HAD COME IN TIME OF WAR,
IN TIME OF MY MOM'S SOBS,
IN THE PRESENCE OF MY FATHER,
WHO DIED IN TIME OF WAR,
BUT THAT I NEVER KNEW.

 I CRIED AS PEOPLE GATHERED,
 TO GRANNY'S HOMESTEAD WITH CRIES,
"THE GIRL IS GONE" THEY CRIED,
BUT THAT GIRL I NEVER KNEW,
 I ONLY KNEW MOM,
 WHO I REALLY DON'T  KNOW.

THE BIG JOKE

The boys were sitted in class. Mwalimu came as usual to give his pupils some assignment. this boy's name was Otis Otieno. the teacher told the pupils to draw a speeding car, showing that the car was speeding. the he left them.
when he came back everyone had completed thei work except Otis Otieno. when asked he asked where his work is he answered  "Ilisaondoka", with his Luo Accent for "the speeding car has gone"
